Join Us!
Are you passionate about environmental education and eager to make a difference in New Hampshire? The New Hampshire Environmental Educators (NHEE) invite environmentally-minded professionals to join our Board of Directors. As a board member, you’ll be part of a dedicated network committed to inspiring connection with our natural world and advancing environmental literacy across the state.

Why Join the NHEE Board?
Joining the NHEE board offers benefits that range from the practical to the philosophical:
- Professional Growth: You’ll have the opportunity to build valuable relationships with professionals from diverse organizations throughout New Hampshire. This network often leads to new collaborations, initiatives, and funding opportunities that can positively impact your career and expand your organization’s influence. Serving on the board is also an excellent way to strengthen your resume and represent your organization in a broader environmental community.
- Personal Fulfillment: Board members take pride in advancing initiatives that connect people of all ages to the natural world. Through our efforts, we’re fostering a community that values environmental stewardship, making a meaningful impact on quality of life for Granite Staters.
We welcome individuals skilled in finance and accounting, advocacy and policy, fundraising and development, communications, and marketing. If you’re passionate about these areas, we encourage you to consider joining us in carrying out our mission.
What Does the NHEE Board Do?
NHEE has been a leader in environmental education since 1979, supporting high-quality environmental learning experiences in New Hampshire. As a board member, you’ll contribute to initiatives like:
- Expanding the NHEE’d to Get Outside Grant: This grant program funds environmental education opportunities for schools and institutions across New Hampshire.
- Creating a New Website and Expanding Membership: We’re continually enhancing our resources and reach to support a growing network of educators and advocates.
- Supporting Climate Education Initiatives: Our board is involved in key projects that raise awareness about climate change and promote sustainability.
Additionally, NHEE board members play an essential role in organizing our annual environmental education conference, a sold-out event that brings together educators, experts, and advocates.
What to Expect as a Board Member
We are a volunteer board, and we aim to keep board commitments manageable so members can balance NHEE activities with their personal and professional lives. Here’s an overview of what to expect:
- Meeting Schedule: We meet monthly from October to June, with one in-person retreat in late August. Most meetings are virtual, but we also hold quarterly in-person sessions at various locations across New Hampshire.
- Commitment: Board members are asked to volunteer for roles or projects based on their skills and interests. This usually involves about 2 hours per month outside of regular meetings, though it may increase seasonally for projects like conference planning or grant reviews.
- Board Term: Each term lasts two years, with board members eligible to serve up to three consecutive terms. After three terms, members are welcome to reapply after a one-year break.
