Looking to make a tangible impact on environmental education in New Hampshire?
The New Hampshire Environmental Educators (NHEE) offers a range of Action Teams that give you the chance to support critical initiatives, work with other passionate individuals, and contribute to the goals of environmental literacy and stewardship in our communities.
Our Action Teams provide flexible, short-term volunteer opportunities for those who may not be ready for board membership but still want to be actively involved in NHEE’s mission. Each team focuses on a specific area, allowing you to bring your skills, interests, and creativity to a cause that matters.

Why Join an Action Team?
- Network and Build Community: Connect with other environmentally-minded individuals across New Hampshire who share your commitment to education and sustainability.
- Contribute to Key Initiatives: Whether you’re helping organize our annual conference or reviewing grants, each team’s work directly supports NHEE’s goals and mission.
- Make an Impact without Long-Term Commitment: Action Teams offer flexibility, allowing you to contribute meaningfully without the extended commitment of board service.
NHEE Action Teams
Here’s an overview of our current Action Teams and the exciting work each one supports:
1. Conference Action Team
This team organizes NHEE’s annual conference, a key event that brings together educators, advocates, and environmental professionals. Team members divide responsibilities, including setting the conference theme, finding speakers, coordinating workshops, and managing logistics. While time commitment can vary, expect 6–10 hours spread across the months leading up to the event.
General Timeline:
- September: Form the team and set the theme
- November–January: Confirm speakers, caterers, and workshop leaders
- March: Conference day and post-conference debrief
2. Development Action Team
If you’re passionate about fundraising and resource development, this team focuses on generating funding for NHEE’s initiatives. Responsibilities include grant writing and planning fundraising events, such as the Silent Auction held at the conference. Team members may review proposals, guide fundraising efforts, and work directly with NHEE’s Administrator.
3. NHEE’d to Get Outside Grant Action Team
This team reviews applications for the NHEE’d to Get Outside Grant, which funds environmental education programs for New Hampshire schools and institutions. Each November, team members evaluate grant submissions, select finalists, and recommend awardees to the Board of Directors.
Timeline:
- November: Review and score grant applications
- Early December: Finalize decisions and notify recipients
4. Environmental Educator of the Year Action Team
The Environmental Educator of the Year Action Team recognizes an outstanding educator who has made a significant impact in environmental education. Team members review nominations and select a winner, who is then honored by NHEE. The process requires a light time commitment, with about 2 hours allocated for reviewing applications and selecting the winner.
5. NH Environmental Literacy Plan (NHELP) Action Team
This team focuses on updating the NH Environmental Literacy Plan, an initiative that supports state-level educational goals. Since this team is newly forming, members will collaborate to create an action plan that aligns with NHEE’s mission and vision. This is a wonderful opportunity for those who enjoy strategic planning and long-term impact work.
Joining an Action Team is a powerful way to support environmental education while building relationships and contributing your skills to meaningful projects. Whether you’re interested in event planning, grant review, or strategic development, there’s a place for you here!
