Join the Harris Center for hands-on, nature-based professional development facilitated by teacher-naturalists, Jenna Spear and Jaime Hutchinson! This year’s workshops are designed to inspire and equip educators with practical tools for incorporating the natural world into their teaching.
Workshop: A Gentle Pathway into Birding
Date: Wednesday, July 30
Time: 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.
Cost: $120/participant
This workshop is perfect for teachers of all grade levels, whether you’re a seasoned birder or a complete beginner. You’ll leave with the confidence and knowledge to guide your students in discovering the fascinating world of local birds. We’ll explore ways to launch and sustain a schoolyard bird study, and share a variety of engaging activities like Sit Spots, migration games, and schoolyard habitat mapping.
Workshop: Starting the School Year with Nature as Your Co-Teacher
Date: Wednesday, August 13
Time: 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.
Cost: $120/participant
Designed for K to 5th-grade teachers, this workshop will provide strategies for weaving nature into your classroom culture from day one. Learn how to incorporate outdoor learning into your daily schedule with activities like outdoor Morning Meetings, Brain Breaks, mapmaking, record-keeping, and nature-related games that build social, observational, and attention skills.
