From Sunlight to ATP: Modeling Energy Flow with HHMI BioInteractive
HHMI BioInteractive is offering a free, full-day professional development workshop for high school biology and environmental science teachers throughout New England.
From Sunlight to ATP: Modeling Energy Flow with HHMI BioInteractive
Where does the energy in a sugar molecule come from, and where does it go when a cell uses it? In this hands-on workshop, educators will explore photosynthesis and cellular respiration while developing a coherent, standards-aligned approach to teaching energy transformations.
Participants will use free HHMI BioInteractive resources to build models, work with data, address common misconceptions such as “energy is made,” and incorporate literacy strategies that help students read, talk, and write about energy using scientific language. Educators will leave with a plan for bringing one or more activities directly into their classrooms.
This workshop is designed for teachers of high school biology and environmental science at all levels, including introductory, AP, IB, and dual-credit courses.
