Virtual Workshop: Practitioner Guide to Assessing Connection to Nature

Are you interested in assessing and enhancing the connections your audiences have to nature?

The Practitioner Guide to Assessing Connection to Nature provides practitioners, organizations, researchers, and others with tested tools for measuring connections to nature. The guide provides information to help you choose an appropriate tool or approach for your needs, specific to your audience and their experiences, to assess connection to nature.

This workshop is made possible through the generous support of the North American Association for Environmental Education and is offered free of charge.

 

Workshop Part 1: 2:00-2:50 PM EST

Part 1 of this workshop will feature a presentation to introduce and review the Guide with time for Q&A.

 

Workshop Part 2: 3:00-4:00 PM EST

Part 2 of this workshop will focus on applying the Guide to your work through breakout groups and full-group discussions.

 

Attendees can choose to participate in Part 1 only or Parts 1 and 2.

About the Presenters:

Chris Parsons is the founder and principal of Word Craft, which specializes in developing exhibits and evaluating PreK-12 education programs for diverse audiences. She’s been working with aquariums, nature centers, and zoos, among others to improve environmental education since the release of the film Jaws.

Julie Ernst is a Professor in the College of Education and Human Service Professions at the University of Minnesota Duluth. Julie earned her Ph.D. at the University of Florida’s School of Forest Resources and Conservation, with an emphasis in environmental education research and evaluation. She has formerly served as an education specialist for the National Park Service and U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service and as a public affairs specialist for the USDA Forest Service. Her interest areas are program evaluation, environment-based education (environmentally-based formal instructional programs), early childhood EE/nature play, and federal agency EE programs.
